A NEW cafe has opened at Cairns Airport showcasing an iconic Australian menu for travellers to taste on their way in and out of Cairns.
Sugar and Cane outside the domestic terminal opened this month thanks to a partnership between Cairns Airport and Cater Care which will result in five new eateries launching.
Saltwater Creek Taphouse has already opened with a focus on local producers, and Mangrove Jacks has also started as a casual bar and dining experience.

“Sugar and Cane is designed around an iconic Australian Viscount Caravan from 1980 and its menu will feature creative options including Iced VoVo milkshakes and cheese and Vegemite toasties,” Cairns Airport chief operating officer Garry Porter said.
Captains Sports Bar which will feature sporting legends, memorabilia and live games and Mr Greens which will have fresh juices and salads are expected to open in the coming weeks.
“Two further food and beverage options (on top of the five) will open later this year and we are on track to welcome a unique, one-of-a kind retail experience just in time for Christmas.”
Cater Care chief operating officer Rob Rutter said the company was committed to sourcing fresh, quality, local produce and products to showcase the Far North.

“Cater Care is keen to hitting the ground running at Cairns Airport and we are thrilled to offer a variety of food and beverage options for each and every traveller’s taste,” he said.
But it isn’t just the domestic terminal which has had a facelift.
Cairns Airport CEO Richard Barker said the team had worked tirelessly to bring options back to the terminal.
“Plans are well underway for a series of upgrades to our international terminal, and we expect work to begin later this year,” he said.
Aelia Duty Free and the Crafty Cassowary have also recently reopened.
