Cairns real estate agent Angela Capitanio retires after 34 years

After three decades selling houses in the Far North, Angela Capitanio reveals the changes she has seen in the market and how she has never given credence to property myths.

Real estate agent's career ‘destroyed’ by cancel culture and apologists for China: Bolt

AFTER 34 years of selling houses in Far North Queensland, Angela Capitanio now has time to catch up with friends and relax a little.

And it’s a retirement well earned as the former Ray White Cairns Central principal listed more than 2000 properties, and settled more than $570 million worth of sales value during her career.

Ms Capitanio has celebrated her successful career and Ray White Queensland director Tony Warland thanked Ms Capitanio for her long service.

“I do owe Ray White a lot,” she said.

“They gave me a lifeline and opened doors for me after my husband passed away and I had three teenagers and was looking for employment after being out of the workforce for over 20 years.”

Ms Capitanio said taking on a real estate role as a “mature person” had its challenges.

“When I started you had to make it work, there were no retainers, you had to find your properties, now salespeople are retained and have a salary which is different from the sink-or-swim days.

“What has not changed is that you must have passion to make it work and your integrity is most important.

“I think to last in real estate you have to be very ethical and caring because people sell their property for many reasons and you have to have a lot of empathy.”

Ms Capitanio said she never believed the Cairns myth about buying a home in an area beginning with an M.

“I have sold houses in those suburbs for some of the highest prices,” she said.

“At the moment supply cannot meet demand and the market is the strongest its been in the past 12 years.”

Mr Warland said Ms Capitanio has been a legend in the firm.

“On her first day she’d arranged with some buyers to show a property and on her way to that appointment was in a bad car accident, which totalled her car, yet she still walked to the property to show it.

“After the inspection the buyers drove her back to the office, where Angela asked for assistance on how to do a contract.”
