Rainforest Reserves Australia to hold event on Thursday protesting Chalumbin Wind Farm

An emergency public meeting has been called as fierce debate erupts over what a controversial Tablelands wind farm development means for wildlife.

‘Environmental downside’ to solar and wind farms

AN EMERGENCY public meeting is being held to discuss the impacts of renewable energy developments on wildlife and wilderness in relation to a Tablelands wind farm development.

Rainforest Reserves Australia has organised the meeting in response to the Chalumbin Wind Farm by Epuron 10km south of Ravenshoe. Rainforest Reserves Australia President Carolyn Emms said there will be a huge impact on wildlife.

“We are inviting people to stand up for our wildlife and our region,” she said.

“They are rolling them all out across FNQ.

“That is going to have irreversible damage to our ecosystems that we will never ever repair.”

Epuron development director Paul Stangroom said the project does not involve rainforest.

“The environmental assessment work is under way. It is being done by independent ecology specialists,” he said.

The event which will feature JCU professors Bill Laurance and Allan Dale, will be held on Thursday November 4 from 6pm at the Pullman Cairns International.
