‘Pretty wild headspace’: Police charge man after depot break-in

A Cairns man has been charged after allegedly going on a drug-fuelled spree at Portsmith industrial complex and taking a Mack truck for joy ride down the Bruce Highway.
Police arrived at the depot of Intrans Logistics on Monday morning and arrested a 40-year-old Holloways Beach man.
Police allege the man broke into the on Redden St yard in Portsmith on Sunday afternoon before rearranging the workshop and driving various forklifts.
He later allegedly took a Mack truck for a drive along the Bruce Highway, police allege.
Intrans Logistics parent company CSF Industries general manager Sean Adams said the alleged truck thief then returned the vehicle to the yard undamaged.
“He made (the depot) his home and I think there is some mental health illness,” he claimed.
“The truck was fine, he brought it back to the workshop and there was no damage.
“And there was no damage to the workshop, he was just in a pretty wild headspace.”
Mr Adams declined to say if the man was a former or current employee of the company.
Police also allege at the time of the man’s arrest it was discovered he had in his possession items that were suspected of being stolen. He was also found with a quantity of dangerous drugs in his possession.
The man has been charged with two counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle, and one count each of enter premises, stealing, possess dangerous drugs, possess suspected stolen property, and unlicensed driving.
Police bail was granted and the Holloways Beach man is expected to appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court on November 19.
