A FAR NORTH state school was thrown into lockdown after a group of non-enrolled juveniles entered school grounds and allegedly attacked a female student.
On Tuesday police were called to Gordonvale State High School at 2.40pm.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said officers got the call for help after the initial incident between 1 and 1.30pm.
“From what I can see it does not look like the juvenile victim had major injuries but ambos did an assessment,” she said.
The girl was taken to Cairns Hospital and was released a short time later.
An Education Queensland spokesman said the Gordonvale State High School student was allegedly assaulted by youths not enrolled at the school.
“The school is working with the victim’s family to ensure the student is well supported,” he said.
“Guidance officer support is available at the school for any students that may require it.
“Violence and anti-social behaviour are not tolerated in Queensland state schools and any situation that threatens the safety and wellbeing of students, staff or others in our school communities is treated extremely seriously, and dealt with as a matter of priority.”
It is alleged youths not enrolled at Gordonvale High, alleged to be behind the attack, were students from another school.
Police stated investigations into the incident were ongoing and no arrests had been made.
