The site of a demolished servo could be home to the Far North’s newest fast food restaurant if given the green light by council. All the details of the 24-hour drive-through restaurant.

The site of a demolished servo at Cairns North has been earmarked by developers for the Far North’s newest fast food restaurant.

Developer Hamdig Pty Ltd – a consortium including, Michael Newman and former Trinity Petroleum owner Dean Pradal – has applied to Cairns Regional Council for permission to reconfigure one lot at 331-335 Sheridan St into two lots.

If the application is successful the new fast food outlet will be Cairns’ fifth Hungry Jack’s, adding to Mount Sheridan, Westcourt, Cairns Airport and Smithfield restaurants.

It’s proposed the new Hungry Jacks will operate 24-hours a day seven days a week.

A noise impact assessment recommended construction of a 2m fence at the northern and western boundaries and loading as well as waste collection limited to 11 hours a day between 7am and 6pm.

The site has been listed on the environmental management register and investigations concluded any contamination arising from previous uses were acceptable and the land was suitable for the proposed development.

The Sheridan St site is not included on the contaminated land register.

Following the submission of an acoustic impact assessment and an engineering report developers indicated the proposed development complied with zoning scope outlined by the Cairns Plan and ought to be given the green light by council.

“The assessment concludes that the application demonstrates compliance with the applicable assessment benchmarks,” the application states.

Krispy Kreme on Sheridan St is expected to open later this year.

“Accordingly, it is anticipated that the development application will be approved, subject to reasonable and relevant conditions.”

Being a code assessable development, no community consultation is required.

The development application lodged on June 4 is yet to come before council for approval.

Meanwhile a new 7-Eleven fuel stop and the highly anticipated Krispy Kreme doughnuts outlet at 334-336 Sheridan St is nearing completion and is expected to open later this year.

The first 7-Eleven store on Sheridan St in North Cairns was initially set to open in May 2022.
