A tattoo artist who prides himself on creating customised pieces of art for his clients has been voted the best tattoo artist in the Far North. SEE THE FULL TOP 10

A TATTOO artist who likes to work with his clients to create a customised piece of art has been voted the best in the region.

Montaj Movement Studio founder Mark Montaj said he liked to focus on the specific piece for his client.

”I work with different styles but I prefer to draw from scratch,” Mr Montaj said.

“I know what I would like to tattoo on people and I listen to where my client wants to take it,” he said.

Mr Montaj said he had been fortunate enough to design tattoos that highlighted people’s heritage and others that detailed a client’s cancer journey.

“Most of the people that come to me are attracted to bigger pieces. I like to design for the body and incorporate a lot of my client’s storytelling,” Mr Montaj said.

Mr Montaj said his style varied and he could do realism, illustrated, dot work and freestyling.

Mr Montaj, who works out of his studio in Aplin St, entered the industry about eight years ago when he felt like his other profession had plateaued.

“My fiancee reminded me that I missed art and I started drawing again,” Mr Montaj said.

A piece done by Mark Montaj for Marcus McGregor Cassidy, in tribute to his pop, was also voted FNQ’s best tattoo in 2019.
