A husband and wife killed in a horror collision with a tractor near the Daintree ferry last year have been remembered by friends as a genuine and friendly couple.

The rider of the motorcycle involved in Cape Tribulation Rd crash has been identified as 64-year-old Geoff Fleglar, the pillion passenger on the bike was 35-year-old Peta Fleglar.

On December 10, Mr Fleglar died at the scene and Ms Fleglar was flown to Cairns Hospital in a critical condition but never recovered from her injuries.

Keith and Lillian Everingham met the couple in Cardwell three years ago and were both shocked by the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

“It was a big shock, I’m still getting over it. I know a lot of people who have died but when you are killed in a motorcycle accident you wonder what they have been through,” Ms Everingham said.

Mr Everingham said “you would take one look and you would run the other way, but looks are not everything.”

“Geoff was an ex-bikie and had a mohawk haircut and tattoos and Peta was half his age,” he said.

“Geoff was on a pension and he had a few (health) problems, Peta was his carer.

“But they were just so friendly.”

Another friend who requested anonymity said she was planning a Christmas Day gathering with the couple on the Atherton Tablelands when tragedy struck.

“It was really hard to find out who it was,” she said.

“I just want people to know they were really wonderful people. Geoff had not been well for a while but he was into building things and welding.

“He was always working with his hands. He was very clever like that, he could build with metal and wood and lay concrete.

“He was always happy to help people out and was generous with his time if he thought you deserved it.

“They were a loving couple and they were happy and they adored each other.”

The Forensic Crash Unit were investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Police had appealed for any witnesses with dashcam vision of a silver motorcycle with two people on it travelling north along Mossman Daintree Rd to come forward.

Initial investigations suggested the motorbike came around a corner at speed and collided with a tractor.
