PORT Douglas has been gripped by Kim Kardashian watch as the Far North tourism jewel returns to its halcyon days of celebrity spotting and heaving holiday crowds.
Southern visitors are filling a typically sun-kissed Four Mile Beach in their hundreds hoping to catch a glimpse of one of the many Hollywood celebrities currently living it up in the palm tree lined holiday hotspot.
Rumours swirled on Wednesday that arguably the world’s most famous person was staying at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Port Douglas, with staff at the luxury resort reportedly signing NDAs before her arrival.
She joined comedian actor Pete Davidson, who is shooting a Brad Pitt produced film starring Tinseltown heart throb Orlando Bloom.
Bloom’s celebrity wife, pop star Katy Perry, has also been making like locals and enjoying the boutique cafes and shops along Macrossan Street in recent weeks.
It has longtime Port Douglas residents and visitors reminiscing of the halcyon days of the glittering tropical town in the 80s and 90s, when it wasn’t unusual to see Elle Macpherson walking past holiday-makers on its busy main strip.
“The last few weeks have been unbelievable,” said lifeguard Connor O’Sullivan.
“I haven’t seen it buzzing like this.”
Sydney tourists Tessa and Talia Christelis, the latter on her first trip to the island-like village, said they could sense the excitement in the tropical breeze.
“It has this amazing vibe to it,” she said.
“It is unbelievable how busy it is, we are a bit blown away.”
Victorian visitor Mason Pedretti, from Shepparton, said he was fully aware of the star factor currently sweeping the town.
“This is the place to be,” he said.
“The weather is unreal, there is plenty to do and I have been keeping my eyes peeled for Kim K, don’t worry about that.”
He may be too late, with sources close to the superstar indicating she may have already jetted back to LA on her private jet.
It all adds to the mystique and marvellous run the Covid-hit Far North is enjoying as the southern states freeze.
It comes as Cairns waiter, Callum McKean, posted an order claiming to be from Kardashian at Italian eatery Piccolo Cucina today – the bill coming in at $567.
Melbourne tourist Wendy Hammond said Covid had ruined a previously planned holiday to Port Douglas but the buzz around town meant it had been worth the wait.
“Isn’t it just fabulous,” she said
