UPDATE: THE long-awaited arrival of Kim Kardashian in the Far North has tourism officials hoping Mossman and the Daintree will be put on the global map.
It is understood she arrived via a luxury private jet to Cairns Airport on Saturday morning before being whisked away by vehicles on the tarmac to Silky Oaks Lodge to spend time with her partner, Pete Davidson, who is in the region filming Wizards!
Tourism Port Douglas Daintree chief executive Tara Bennett said if Kim Kardashian was to post the region on her socials during her time here, it would be great.
“It’s an opportunity for the region to be exposed to an engaged global audience; it’s a huge promotion,” she said.
“We hope for blue skies and sunshine so we can put our best foot forward.”
Ms Kardashian isn’t usually shy posting her overseas adventures. Her arrival comes days after she was posting photos along beaches of the Turks and Caicos Islands with her sister Khloe.
Ms Bennett said there was already a buzz around town.
“There’s a distinct buzz – it’s a combination of lots of holiday-makers but having well-known celebrities in the area does add to that buzz,” she said.
Port Douglas harpist and hospitality worker Loni Fitzpatrick said there had been chatter around celebrities being in town.
“It’s been a long time since celebrities have come to town. I’ve seen people talking about it on community Facebook pages,” she said. “There’s a lot more local chat about people’s general interactions with, say, Katy Perry.”
Ms Fitzpatrick said everyone was just trying to keep their cool.
EARLIER, JULY 17: HOLLYWOOD superstar Kim Kardashian has finally touched down in the Far North after it was rumoured she was in Cairns last month.
It is understood she arrived via luxury private jet to the Cairns Airport on Saturday morning accompanied by an entourage.
She was whisked away by vehicles waiting on the tarmac to Silky Oaks Lodge where her movie star boyfriend Pete Davidson has stayed for the past month.
Her arrival has already created a major buzz throughout the Far North.
Fans have lapped up news of the reality TV star’s arrival following a hoax by an Edge Hill business owner last month who claimed Ms Kardashian ate at his cafe.
Tourism Tropical North Queensland chief executive Mark Olsen hoped Ms Kardashian had a great time in the region.
“It certainly has created a lot of interest with expectations rising that one of the Kardashians would finally make it to Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef,” he said.
“It will generate even more interest now. Over the last two years the internet traffic has gone up dramatically as there are so many things people can discover.
“We hope Kim Kardashian being here will show that.”
Mr Olsen said the region had become quite familiar to visits from famous people keen to enjoy the best of the region’s natural assets.
“As a destination that’s always respected the privacy of celebrities over many years, I am sure they will have a fantastic time as there is a lot of things to do here,” he said.
The socialite’s partner Pete Davidson is in town filming the comedy Wizards!
Since his arrival he has been spotted in many locations including at Crystalbrook Flynn, the Cairns Esplanade and Timezone on Abbott St.
Katy Perry is also in Town accompanied by her fiance Orlando Bloom.
She has been spotted at various locations in Port Douglas.
