The ferry was closed from Friday November 18 to Tuesday November 22 as Douglas Shire Council replaced the northern ramp.

Douglas Shire Council Mayor Michael Kerr said everything went to plan.

“The replacement was successful which has now given us two brand new ramps, one on each side,” Cr Kerr said.

“We are doing all the testing this morning (Monday), and it will be open for 5am on Tuesday.”

Cr Kerr said the ramps were replaced for the safety of everyone.

“Both the ramps were coming to the end of life,” he said.

“Now that they’ve been replaced we know that’s no longer a concern and we can guarantee a great service heading across the river.”

Cr Kerr said it was just in time for a busy tourist season ahead of Christmas.

“Once we get into season again. Halfway through December when the school holidays start we will get a peak period that will go until January.
