A smiling monstrosity on six wheels has been spooking motorists in Cairns for months – and the mystery has finally been solved.

A SMILING monstrosity on six wheels has been spooking motorists in Cairns for months with mystery surrounding its cursed creation.

It sits like a haunted sideshow attraction among the vintage tractors and broken-down farm equipment in the Quaid Auctioneers yard on Sheridan St.

Faded clues to this six-wheeled abomination are everywhere – a menacing “recycle now” demand scrawled on its hull, and a partially legible number plate with the first three letters “ROS” and the rest obscured by the ravages of time.

But what exactly is it and, more importantly, is it for sale?

Both questions have been causing a stir on Reddit with Cairns locals voicing utter terror that this thing shared their postcode.

“I usually fear nothing that the far north throws at me,” one Redditor posted.

“Cassowaries? They having nothing compared to this horror parked on Sheridan St.”

Others wrote the miniature vehicle would haunt their dreams and referred to it as “nightmare fuel”.

“Thanks. Now I’m never going to sleep again,” another wrote.

It turns out the local council is to blame.

Peter Muir from Quaid Auctioneers said the council used to bring the hellish little automobile to public events to promote recycling – not night terrors – among younger residents.

“It ended up at our place with no batteries in it, and I think the motor’s gone as well,” he said.

“It’s been there for quite some time.”

There is bad news for anyone hoping to scoop a bargain at an upcoming auction to bring a touch of the eternal abyss to their carport.

“It’s been sold, but it hasn’t been picked up,” Mr Muir said.

Until the new owner organises transport, it will remain there standing sentinel like a bloodcurdling gargoyle on Sheridan St.
