TODAY’S NEWS
Two vehicle crash created delays
UPDATE: Road cleared after atwo vehicle crash in Mooroobool affected traffic.
One car was stuck in the middle of the road as emergency services attended the scene.
Queensland Police said the crash occurred on Moody St and Mccoombe St at 6.10pm with no injuries to the drivers.
Hit and run incident
UPDATE: Police are appealing for witnesses after a 16-year-old boy was struck by a truck at Manunda Thursday, June 16.
Initial investigations indicate at about 9pm the teenager was crossing Anderson Rd near
the intersection of Chaplain Av, when he was struck by a passing white tow truck.
The boy sustained minor head injuries and was transported to the Cairns Hospital.
Police are appealing to anyone that was in the vicinity of Anderson St between 8.50pm and
9.30pm who may have witnessed this incident or have dashcam footage, to come forward.
Detectives also appeal to the driver of a white tow truck that was in the area at the time to contact police.

Kuranda range closed
UPDATE: The Kuranda Range is now open in both directions as of 11.40am, June 17.
Cairns police have stated the Kuranda Range Rd will be periodically closed to traffic in both directions from 9.30am.
Traffic will be affected.
This is to recover a vehicle that was involved in yesterday’s crash.
Police advise motorists to be patient as lengthy delays may be experienced.
The road closure expected to be for two hours.
The vehicle recovery closure follows an accident on Thursday evening involving a car that left the road and rolled down an embankment.
A woman and child were both taken to Cairns Hospital in stable conditions.
The female patient remains in hospital in a stable condition as of 4.20pm June 17, the child has since been discharged.
Violent burglary
Police have charged a 23-year-old Woree man in relation to an alleged wounding and burglary in Mooroobool Thursday, June 16.
Police will allege two men attended a Pease St unit at approximately 3am, where a verbal
altercation has occurred with a 44-year-old man.
It is alleged the 44-year-old was assaulted and stabbed with a pair of scissors, before the men
allegedly stole several items and left the scene.
The victim suffered injuries to his head and shoulder. He was transported to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition.
Investigations led detectives to overnight arrest a 23-year-old Woree man at a Mooroobool address.
He has been charged with wounding and burglary and is expected to appear before Cairns
Magistrates Court today.
EARLIER: A man in his teens was treated by Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics on Thursday night after a pedestrian incident on Anderson St, Manunda.
At 9.07pm, the man suffering from a head injury, was taken to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition.
Multiple burglaries
Police have arrested two teenage girls, aged 15 and 17, on Thursday, June 16, following an investigation into multiple alleged unit break-ins in Cairns City.
Police will allege at approximately 3am on Tuesday, June 14, a group has entered the Cairns
Esplanade apartment complex and allegedly stolen a vehicle, cash and other items.
Investigations led police to locate and arrest two teenage girls in Edmonton.
A 15-year-old Edmonton girl was charged with four counts of burglary and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle. Police opposed her bail, and she will appear in the Cairns Childrens Court.
A 17-year-old Edmonton girl was charged with four counts of burglary and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
She was bailed with strict conditions to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court later this month.
THURSDAY’S NEWS
Kuranda range road rescue
UPDATE: Main Roads have advised the Kuranda Range Rd is now open to traffic after a vehicle plunged off a cliff on Thursday afternoon.
QFES were successful in rescuing the wheelchair bound occupant of the car who was winched to safety in a basket stretcher.
An woman and child were both taken to Cairns Hospital in stable conditions.
EARLIER: Kuranda Range Rd near Henry Ross Lookout is closed completely in both directions following a single vehicle accident.
Queensland Ambulance Service are on scene at assessing patients at an accident where a vehicle has gone down an embankment on the Kennedy Highway at 5.20pm.
Paramedics are assessing one patient while a second patient is being accessed with a Queensland Fire and Rescue team.
A QAS spokesman said there were two patients involved, an 11 year old boy who is out of the vehicle and a wheelchair patient still inside the car – both with minor injuries.
A QFES spokesman said there were technical rescue crews helping reach the vehicle that was nine metres down where one occupant was inside.
Queensland Police have deployed traffic control to assist with the delays and encourage motorists to avoid the area.
Cairns Regional Council contractor in hospital after machinery fall
UPDATE 3:15PM
Cairns Regional Council has confirmed that the man injured in machinery indigent on Thursday afternoon was a contractor.
“A contractor, undertaking works on behalf of Council, was involved in an incident at Copperlode Falls Dam earlier this afternoon,” a council spokesman said.
“Out of respect for the operator’s privacy and as the incident is now under investigation, Council will not be providing any further comment.”
Earlier, paramedics reported that a man who fell 10m down an embankment has been transported to hospital with serious injuries.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man in his 20s had been transported to Cairns Hospital by road ambulance.
“The man has serious pelvic, back and rib injuries,” she said.
“He was in a piece of machinery when it rolled down the embankment.”
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said three crews responded to the incident.
“But once at the incident they liaised with paramedics but were not needed,” a QFES spokesman said.

Emergency services are liaising with Queensland Ambulance to decide if a rescue helicopter is required after a man fell 10m down a steep embankment shortly after 1pm on Thursday.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man in 20s had been injured after the machinery he was operating rolled down the embankment along Lake Morris Rd, Kanimbla.
“A male in his 20s fell down the large embankment of around 10m where there was lots of exposed rock,” she said.
“He was operating a machine on the side of the road, it seems the road gave way and he rolled over the edge.”
The spokeswoman said paramedics at the scene had located the patient.
“He is reported to be in a stable condition with no serious injuries,” she said.
“Paramedics are negotiating with firefighters to see if a rescue helicopter is required.”
Meanwhile, a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman confirmed they had two crews at the scene.
Two-vehicle crash, Cairns Central
A two-vehicle crash has caused a hazard zone for traffic at Bunda St and Spence St, just outside of popular shopping centre Cairns Central.
Emergency services were called to the site of the crash just before 10am, with police, QAS and QFES responding.
A Queensland Police spokesman said the incident “doesn’t seem too bad”.
QAS team on site assessed occupants involved but have only found minor injuries.

Parramatta Park rollover
A car has rolled over in Parramatta Park this afternoon following a two-vehicle crash.
Emergency services were called to the Draper Street site, where QAS are currently assessing all occupants of both vehicles.
QFES is on site to maintain the safety of the vehicles.

Elderly woman injured in multi vehicle crash
Passengers were injured after two cars have collided head on in a multi vehicle crash on Lake Barrine Rd at 12.30pm.
There were four patients treated by ambulance on scene before all were transported to Atherton Hospital.
An elderly woman in her 80s received the worst with head and chest injuries and was transported with minor injuries.
Another patient, a teenager with minor injuries and a baby who suffered bruises has also been taken to hospital, Queensland Ambulance Service said.
The road was closed from both directions on Lake Barrine Rd as police crews assisted with traffic control.
Emergency services have cleared the scene.
Boy charged with property, vehicle offences
A 15-year-old Yarrabah boy was arrested on June 13 following investigations into several
alleged offences across the Cairns and Tablelands areas.
Police will allege late on June 4 a car was stolen from a home at Haines St, Gordonvale after keys were stolen from inside the home.
The vehicle was then involved in a petrol drive off at an Atherton petrol station.
It will be further alleged that on June 6 several people entered a home in Solander Street, Port
Douglas locating two sets of car keys before stealing both cars. The cars were later located in
Yarrabah.
Yesterday the boy was located and arrested with police charging him with three counts of burglary, two counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle and one count each of unlicensed driving, enter premise and commit indictable offence and stealing
Police opposed the boy’s bail, and he will appear in the Cairns Childrens Court.
Woman charged with serious assault and drug offences
A 25-year-old Potts Point, Sydney, woman was charged after a security officer at a Cairns restaurant was allegedly assaulted on Tuesday.
It will be alleged just after midnight a woman was asked to leave a Pier Point Road restaurant and refused to do so.
Police will further allege that a security guard, escorting the woman from the bar area, was hit in the face before being spat on.
Police arrived, arresting the woman and transporting her to the Cairns Watch house. During a
search police allegedly located cannabis and a grinder.
She was charged with one count each of fail to leave licenced premise, common assault, serious assault, possessing dangerous drugs and possess utensils.
The 25-year-old woman was bailed and will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 30.
MONDAY’S NEWS
Multiple arrests
Officers were kept busy over the weekend with the Cairns Property Crime Unit charging six people, including four juveniles and two adults with a total of 37 offences.
A 15-year-old Earlville boy was charged with seven counts of attempted enter dwelling, four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts each of burglary, enter premise and commit indictable offence, enter dwelling with intent to commit indictable offence and one count of possess house breaking instrument.
It will be alleged that on May 29 the boy, along with others, used a tool and broke into six Cairns Esplanade units. It is alleged car keys and a car were stolen.
It will be further alleged that on June 9, the boy attempted to break into several homes on Coastline Parade, Trinity Beach.
His bail was opposed, and he will reappear in the Cairns Children’s Court this month.
A 46-year-old Biboohra man has been charged with four counts of stealing, three counts of enter premise and one count of attempted stealing following an investigation into scrap metal and tools allegedly being stolen from a Marsh Street, Woree, business.
The man is expected to appear before Cairns Magistrates Court on July 11.
A 15-year-old Bungalow girl was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle after she was allegedly observed by police to be an occupant of a car that had been stolen from Freshwater on June 8.
Police opposed her bail, and she will appear in the Cairns Children’s Court.
A 16-year-old Bungalow boy was charged with five counts of enter premise and commit indictable offence and one count each of attempted enter premise, receiving tainted property and wilful damage.
Police will allege that on June 3, the boy entered a Mulgrave Road shop and stole several items before leaving.
It will be further alleged that on June 5, the boy broke into several cars parked at a McCormack Street unit block, stealing items from the vehicles.
It will be further alleged the boy caused damage to a Water Street business on June 2.
His bail was opposed, and he will appear before the Cairns Children’s Court.
A 17-year-old Yarrabah girl was charged with two counts each of unlicensed driving and stealing and one count each of burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and receiving tainted property.
It will be alleged she was involved in a vehicle theft at Freshwater, before stealing fuel from two service stations. Her bail was opposed, and she will appear before the Cairns Children’s Court.
A 25-year-old Cairns man was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of obstruct police, possess dangerous drugs, possess knife, stealing and unlicensed driving.
It will be alleged the man was driving south along the Bruce Highway in a stolen car when police deployed a tyre deflation device, successfully intercepting the vehicle.
Police searched the car and located a knife and small quantity of methylamphetamine. His bail was opposed and he will reappear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 11.
Vehicle theft charge
Officers from the Property Crime Squad have charged an 18-year-old Bentley Park woman after she allegedly fled from a stolen vehicle at Bentley Park shortly before midday on Saturday, June 11.
It will be alleged the Mitsubishi station wagon was stolen from a Yorkeys Knob home around 2.45am that morning.
The vehicle was abandoned at the intersection of Friendship Street and McLaughlin Road, with the woman allegedly running from the scene.
The woman was taken into custody following a short foot chase. She was the only occupant in the vehicle.
The 18-year-old was charged with unlicensed driving and two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
She is expected to appear before Cairns Magistrates Court today.
