A Cairns singer with a message of never giving up on your dreams, even through the hard times, will debut her latest song this Friday.

Carinda Christie will perform Gotta Let Go at Elixir Bar on Friday night from 8pm.

“I haven’t written a song for a long time and I think it’s a song I’ve been trying to write for a long time,” Ms Christie said.

“I’ve had a pretty hard life and I think when the pressures of everything come along like Covid it just added some extra pressure.

“It’s about feeling a bit depressed about sometimes and frustrated about things and actually getting on and battling on.”

Despite the stress Ms Christie wanted to show that you can fight for your dreams even at 50-years-old.

“Sometimes when you get older you think am ‘I too old’, but I have a bit of a drive in me and it kinds came out in the song,” she said.

“I say no one’s going to stop me now.

“You can keep doing what you love, no ones going to stop you.”

But what made the song extra special for Ms Christie is her daughter’s spoken word contribution.

“My 16-year-old daughter is talking in it, she’s witnessed a lot of frustration at school,” she said.

“She came up with the most beautiful words, as you know at high school there’s a lot going on.”

Ms Christie said because of her daughter’s involvement it was a song for everyone.

“I wanted her, from a teenager’s point of view, to come up with some words about how you feel at a certain age,” she said.

“It was beautiful – the song is from my point of view as an older person but her part helps relate to younger people.

Ms Christie said she has so far played the song for some crowds but had gotten great feedback.

The song is expected to be released on all platforms by next week but the show this week will be a bit of a tease.

“This show at the Elixir Bar, is purely a showcase. It’s my whole band playing, she said.

The two-hour show will showcase her original songs in an up-close and personal manner.
