AN Indigenous singer originally from Yarrabah has created a picture book featuring 30 of his favourite songs.
Barry Cedric said his book called Barry Cedric Songlines: Stories from Yarrabah included some important themes.
“There’s stuff about relationships, something about friends, a little bit about love but the most important one is Indigenous connection to land,” he said.
“If we look after the land, the land looks after us.
“Indigenous people have cared for the land for so long, there are some political songs there too.”
Mr Cedric said he has written almost 500 songs in his career and wanted to share his love of singing with Indigenous people and the rest of Australia.
“I’ve been singing all my life since I was 11-years-old in Yarrabah, since then I’ve never looked back.”
“I wanted to encourage the generation that is here now but also the generation that is not born yet.”
Mr Cedric will be performing at Cairns Convention Centre on July 6 at 6.30pm where the 100-page book will be available for purchase.
