Man injured after scooter and SUV crash at busy intersection

A man has been taken to Cairns Hospital a with leg injury after a car and a motor scooter collided at a busy Cairns intersection.

PARAMEDICS have transported a man to hospital following a crash between a motor scooter and a SUV at a busy Cairns intersection shortly after 11.30am on Thursday.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics attended the incident where they treated a man in 50s who was lying on the road at the intersection of Anderson and McCormack streets, Manunda.

She confirmed the man suffered a leg injury and had been transported to Cairns Hospital.

“Paramedics were called at 11.36am today to a vehicle and motor scooter incident,” she said.

“Paramedics are treating a man in his 60s for leg pain.

“We have two crews at the scene.”

Earlier a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services representative said three crews had been assigned to attend the incident.

“We had three crews on route to a motorbike versus car incident,” he said.

“There are no reports of entrapment at this stage.

“Two of our crews were turned back.”

It is understood that the motor scooter was travelling along McCormack St and the two vehicles collided on Anderson St

The damaged vehicles have collected by tow trucks and removed from the scene.

Traffic control is in place with Anderson St reduced to one lane in the direction of Sheridan St.

The site has been cleared and all traffic is not moving freely.
