A WOMAN has died following a motorbike crash north of the Cairns on Wednesday, March 2.

Initial police investigations revealed about 6pm the 27-year-old Whitfield woman was a passenger on the bike, driven by a 31-year-old Port Douglas Man on Barrier St, Port Douglas when the pair were thrown from the bike after negotiating a corner.

The woman was transported to Mossman Hospital by paramedics.

However, she had sustained critical injuries and later died in hospital.

The tragic incident occurred out the front of Popular restaurant the Beach Shack.

The Four Mile dining precinct is also home to the Barrier Reef Tavern and Kai restaurants.

Forensic Crash Unit officers at 9.30am, Thursday were at the scene piecing together exactly how the crash occurred.

The area is popular with both locals and tourists with the white sands and crystal blue waters of Four Mile Beach 100m away.

The Forensic Crash Unit is appealing for witnesses especially those with dashcam of the crash or the moments leading up to it to come forward.

The fatal crash follows a number of road incidents across the Far North on Wednesday with a child and a woman with neck injuries transported to hospital following a four-car pileup at the corner of Whitfield St and Aeroglen Drive before 9am.

And police were also called to a truck which had jackknifed on the Yarrabah range and was blocking both sides of the road.
