A RISING star of the Far North music scene will perform a showcase of her own songs, plus some diva classics, at a glamorous one-night show in Cairns.
The show, named An Evening with Abi Muir, will involve the 18-year-old performing nine of her original songs including her 2020 single First Date which was nominated for a Queensland Music Award.
The set list, for the black-tie dinner event on Saturday, August 6 at the Shangri-La Hotel in Cairns, will also feature her first single Heebiejeebies as well as songs from her first EP called To You.
Ms Muir has an immersive sound that is a sweet mix between pop diva and punk rocker, but she has recently discovered a new style when recording her latest music which she is keen to show off to fans.
“I am so excited for the show, I like all things girly, so a sit-down dinner with formal attire is very me,” she said.
“The EP has five songs and is called To You, but each song is very different, ranging from rock to funk.
“I have a completely different sound on this EP than I did before.”
Ms Muir said music has always been important to her and she gained her confidence here in the Far North where her family relocated from a small island in Scotland when she was 11.
“Music has always been a huge part of my life,” she said.
“When I came to Australia, I joined the choir and then started taking voice lessons, which is when I really became obsessed with singing and wanting to perform.
“I used to get really bad stage fright when it came to singing, but I came out of my shell a lot more when we moved to Australia, as more people did singing here, so I gained a lot more confidence.”
This special show is just one of the singer’s many career highlights which include being named winner of Cairns Regional Council’s junior cultural award in 2020 and receiving a Regional Arts Development Grant to help her develop original songs.
Ms Muir has fans across 72 countries and is a verified artist on Spotify. She has performed at venues across the city including The Tanks and Bar 36 at the Reef Hotel Casino. On Saturday, she will perform at Relay for Life at Barlow Park.
When asked what advice she would give other young performers trying to break into the industry, she said you have to love what you do and keep going.
“It can be a brutal industry and not everyone is going to like what you do, but if you love what you’re doing, you just need to push through and focus on yourself and the supporters you do have,” she said.
The show has been put together by TJ Edwards Productions and ticket prices start at $59 and can be at https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/an-evening-with-abi-muir-tickets-314425363727.
