A C-17A Globemaster III aircraft from the Royal Australian Air Force will conduct low-level flying over the Memorial Forecourt in New Farm on Saturday 12 August.
The fly by is in support of a Victory in the Pacific ceremony to commemorate the end of World War II for Australians and will take place at 10.10am.
The flight path of the C-17A will run from Oxlade Dr from the powerhouse to the Memorial and is subject to change due to air traffic control requirements and weather.
The C-17A Globemaster III is a 53m aircraft that allows Australia to deploy troops, supplies, combat vehicles, heavy equipment and helicopters anywhere in the world.
All eight C-17As have been a core part of disaster relief and humanitarian missions.
It comes as the Courier Mail was told by organisers that Riverfire, taking place on September 2, will also feature a C-17, Super Hornet and Army Tiger Helicopter.
RSL Queensland South Eastern District President Kerry Gallagher said the day was important for both the service and ex-service community as well as Queenslanders.
“Having the Globemaster flyover shows that all three services played a vital part in ensuring the Pacific stayed free at that time,”
Mr Gallagher described the Globemaster as “quite an impressive piece of kit.”
“It brings a very significant capability to the ADF and the size and impact of it flying over will add dimension to the parade,” he said.
Mr Gallagher said he expected around 1500 people to attend the ceremony including the Queensland Governor, senior service chiefs and the general public.
