Traffic is crawling around Brisbane this morning after a charity cycling event closed roads across the city.

Traffic is crawling around Brisbane this morning after a charity cycling event closed roads across the city.

Residents have been urged to plan ahead for their Sunday morning commutes with closures resulting from the Tour de Brisbane causing significant delays across the Southern suburbs, Fortitude Valley, Mt Coot-Tha Rd and Bowen Hills Rd.

Drivers in Fortitude Valley reported crawling along main streets as they sought alternative routes to their destination.

Some streets have already begun to reopen around the city while others will remain closed into this afternoon.

FULL LIST OF ROAD CLOSURES

The Story Bridge, between Ann St and Main St, and Brunswick Street, between McLachlan St and Ann St, are expected to open again at 9.30am.

Milton Road, between Miskin St and Western Freeway, should open at 12.30pm while the ICB Eastbound, between Hale Street and Kingsford Smith Drive, is due to open at 11.30am.

Transport and Main Roads advised parts of the Brisbane Busway would also be closed while the event is on.

Tolls on the Clem 7 northbound will be turned off from 5am to 11.30am during the event and southbound will also be toll-free from 5am to 1pm.

Queensland Ambulance Service advised its bicycle response team would be hitting the road alongside hundreds of cyclists participating in the event which raises funds for The Common Good, an initiative of The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation.

“There will be major road closures and changed traffic conditions throughout Brisbane to ensure a safe ride for those participating in the fundraiser,” Queensland Ambulance posted to social media.
