A truck has crashed into a house, killing an elderly couple in Victoria’s southwest coast.

Emergency services were called to a house on the Princes Highway in Tower Hill just after 7am on Friday following reports a truck had veered from the road and crashed into the home.

An 81-year-old man and 80-year-old woman inside the house died at the scene.

They have been identified as Jim and Carmel Madden, according to the Herald Sun.

The truck driver, a 70-year-old Portland man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are set to arrive on scene, with investigations ongoing.

The couple, who previously sold cattle at the Warrnambool Sales Yards, were reportedly well known in their community.

Mr Madden told the Weekly Times in 2016 his family previously grew potatoes and onions but had made the switch to dairy after that point, with the farm being in the family for 75 years.

The couple reportedly had 300 Friesian cows.

Police have urged anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage to come forward.

There have been 224 lives lost on Victorian roads this year, down from 235 lives lost this time last year.
