Alana Rae Wooster faces Toowoomba Magistrates Court said scales for ‘weighing cups of semen’

When police raided a Darling Downs woman’s apartment and questioned what she used her scales for, her response was perplexing.

A court has been told a Darling Downs woman in jail for drug offences told police her scales were not used for criminal activity, but rather for weighing cups of semen.

Police prosecutor Natalie Bugden said Alana Rae Wooster was staying in Brisbane City when the tactical crime squad searched her Evolution Apartments address.

Sergeant Bugden said when officers searched Wooster’s backpack they found scales and a lockbox.

“She informed police she utilised the scales to weigh cups of semen,” she said.

“Police observed the scales to be in a used condition and suspected they were used in conjunction with the commission of a drug offence.”

The court was not told whether the woman was weighing human or animal semen, or for what purpose, or if any cups of semen were located in the waterfront apartment.

Sergeant Bugden said the woman was sentenced in the Supreme Court on May 18, for a raft of drug-related crimes related to the same police raid.

She was sentenced to a two year jail term and was able to apply for bail on June 1.

The matters before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday, June 21, were not dealt with at the same as the drug offences, as they are minor offences before a lower court.

Solicitor Chelsea Saldumbide said if the mother of two had all of the charges dealt with at the same time, her sentence would not have been any different.

Wooster pleaded guilty via videolink from jail to possessing scales and a lockbox used for the commission of a drug offence, and was convicted with no further punishment imposed by magistrate Kay Philipson.

The 173 days Wooster spent in custody were also taken into account.
