Queenslanders are embracing their new-found freedom from border restrictions and lockdowns, with the most popular Christmas gifts having a focus on fun in the sun.
David Jones Queens Plaza manager Thomas Schmidt said the store had been inundated with shoppers looking to buy outdoor toys.
“We’re seeing customers celebrating this season with a new kind of energy, probably celebrating the new freedoms,” Mr Schmidt said.
“Outdoor toys have been received really well by customers, I think that’s a celebration of the freedom that we have now we’re out of that lockdown period.”
Mr Schmidt said beach toys had been popular, as well as a range of scooters.
“We have a huge variety of toys and gifting for the season,” he said.
“The most popular toys have been the Globber scooters.
“We have the three-in-one scooter which has an adaptable handle which can be removed … so you can adjust that scooter to the ability of your child.”
Mr Schmidt said Lego has always been a success, with David Jones selling everything from Star Wars to superhero-themed sets.
“There’s something here for everyone,” he said.
David Jones will operate under extended trading hours today and tomorrow, from 8am to 11pm.
