A woman has shared how she has taken a bite out of her husband's packed lunch sandwich every day for the last 41 years - and it's causing a stir online.

But the explanation behind it is actually super adorable, with some now saying it's a 'role model marriage' and wanting to emulate the peculiar tradition themselves.

'Lunch tastes better when shared with someone you love'

In a Facebook post that's gone viral, Tracy wrote: "Clifford and I have been married almost 41 years and I have made his lunch every working day since day one.

"On occasion, I would join him on the job site and have lunch with him. He made the comment once that lunch tasted better when you share it with someone you love," she began.

"Soon after that, while fixing his sandwich one night, I took a bite out of it before putting it away."

After he returned home (this was long before mobile phones), he commented that someone took a bite out of his sandwich.

Then she revealed the truth, saying, "I told him that since I couldn’t join him for lunch, I took a bite so he knew I was joining him."

Well, Clifford could have taken that one of two ways... but thankfully, the gesture was well-received.

"I continue to do this frequently (unless it’s tuna or pimento cheese)," wrote Tracy. "And he still says, 'Saw you joined me for lunch today and it sure was good'."

She then shared a photo of a bread roll in a zip-lock bag with a small bite taken out of it.

Comments ranged from 'this is gross' to 'this is so cute'

Naturally, there were a few negative comments. One person wrote: "Aww how cute... but also, don't touch my food lol."

"Not going to lie, that's kind of gross," another comment read.

Then this bloke said: "This is grounds for divorce."

But on the whole, the comments actually remained overwhelmingly positive.

"That is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard!!" wrote one fan.

Another said, "That is so sweet. I just love this."

"I'm in tears, this is so precious," concluded a third.

The key to Tracy and Clifford's happy marriage

Others commented on how the pair have upheld a "role model marriage", something that Tracy says is down to the fact they don't take each other for granted.

"The only thought that comes to my mind when I fix his lunch and 'take a bite of his sandwich' is how much I love him," she later shared on Facebook after the post went viral.

"About as much thought as he puts into a phone call in the middle of the day when he tells me 'he just needs to hear my voice' or a little note we leave for each other here and there from time to time.

"We probably tell each other a dozen times a day that we love each other. We never wanted the other to assume we loved them. We don’t go out of our way, it’s just as natural to us as brushing your teeth."
