TripAdvisor reveals South Pacific’s top 10 beaches

Four Queensland beaches have been named among the 10 best in the South Pacific, with the No.1 beach in the state going to an unlikely contender.
TripAdvisor has revealed that Emily Bay on Norfolk Island, was voted as Australia’s third best beach by its millions of members, only beaten by Cable Beach in Broome, and Manly Beach in Sydney.
The snorkelling haven, which climbed up three spots from last year’s TripAdvisor Best Beaches in the South Pacific list, is known for its clear turquoise waters, soft white sand diverse and marine life.
Despite being named the state’s best beach, most Queenslanders aren’t likely to have visited the picturesque Emily Bay, which is located over 1400km off the Queensland coast.
Norfolk Island fell under Queensland jurisdiction in 2022, after the Australian Government and the Queensland Government signed an Intergovernmental Agreement to support the provision of state services to Norfolk Island, following the end of the island’s existing arrangements with the New South Wales Government on December 31 2021.
The Sunshine Coast’s Mooloolaba Beach took out fourth place, with two of North Queensland’s most iconic beaches, Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas, and Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays, placing sixth and seventh.
The Gold Coast’s famous Surfers Paradise failed to place in the region’s top 10, despite previously being voted within Tripadvisor’s top 3 beaches in the country back in 2019.
TripAdvisor’s Head of Editorial Sarah Firshein said Australia scoring seven out of 10 spots for the region, and Queensland being the state with the most entries is an indication of just how much travellers love our beaches.
“Australia dominated the list of the best beaches in the South Pacific for 2023, securing 7 entries in the top 10,” she said.
“And Queensland has the most entries in the top 10 beaches this year out of any Australian state or territory, which is testament to just how loved they are by travellers around the world!”
