Christian Wilkins spills on the most outrageous party he’s ever been to after being “ditched by a girlfriend” in LA and the fashion tips we need to embrace to see us through the holiday period.

Today is Boxing Day. Are you up and about, or are you in a food coma from Christmas celebrations like the rest of us?
We’re actually having a big Boxing Day party! My best mate lives in Melbourne and he’s driving up early today with his partner Mitch.
There’s going to be a lot of people, but like so many other families and friends who have been separated for too long this year, I’m mostly excited to see him. Don’t tell the other guests [laughs].
How did you spend Christmas?
I’m very proud to be a Wayside Chapel ambassador and this is the second year my mum and I have volunteered at its Christmas lunch.
It truly is the best day – they shut down the street for a lunch for all their visitors; there’s singing and dancing, and the looks on all the kids’ faces is truly priceless.
A new year is around the corner. Assuming you’ll be throwing a soiree to ring in 2022, can you give us a few hosting tips?
Don’t be that girl who changes the song halfway through – no-one likes her and she won’t be invited again. Have a drink station with a bit of drama. My current favourite is a martini station.
It’s great to perch yourself at with all the ingredients – [I like a] Grey Goose Limited Edition light-up Night Vision bottle if you can find it, vermouth, lychee cans, bitters, olive brine, lemons – because you get to interact with everyone.
Finally, make sure to have fun. Sometimes hosts miss out on all the good times, but integrate yourself. You and your guests will thank you for it.
Any fashion tips for us?
While I believe there’s no such thing as being “too extra”, people seem to take more risks around the holiday period. This is the time to bust out that sequined dress you bought once and have never worn.
What is the most outrageous party you’ve ever been to?
I once rocked up to a friend’s “ugly Christmas sweater party” in LA and I arrived after being ditched by a girlfriend at The Abbey [a popular gay nightclub in West Hollywood], so I was in a mesh tee and jeans ripped under my booty… not exactly the vibe they were going for!
If you’ve got any New Year’s resolutions you’d like to share, we’d love to hear them.
It seems to be the ethos of the moment, but I’ve really been trying to practise gratitude this year, taking my first few waking moments of each day to think of three things I’m grateful for.
It’s an amazing, grounding thing to do for yourself. I want to make sure I continue putting this in place in 2022.
