Honor Tebbutt and Thomas Sigler married at a luxury hinterland venue with celebrations continuing for four days.
The Balmoral couple tied the knot at The Valley Estate on the Gold Coast before 113 guests on April 6 this year, a date special to the bride with her father passing away on that day 17 years ago.
The stunning day’s special touches included three bridal outfits, handwritten notes to all guests, a confetti canon, choreographed dance and a champagne tower instead of cake.
It was the perfect way to celebrate the couple who have been together for six years after they met on Tinder.
While Honor is originally from Currimundi on the Sunshine Coast, Thomas moved to Queensland in 2012 from his home in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, US, for his job.
The proposal? On a winter day in Stanthorpe, on dusk, Thomas pulled over in a winery (Severn Brae) and asked Honor to check out the grape vines. She was dubious, but went along with it. That’s where he proposed. Then, they drove up the road to call Honor’s mum (who is a Christian missionary in Uganda) and Thomas’s mum in Pennsylvania) as there was limited mobile reception.
How did you choose your wedding venue?
It was love at first sight. We have never seen a more elegant venue in Australia and The Valley Estate lived up to our expectations.
How did you go about choosing your wedding dress? It was a second-hand dress from the Stillwhite website. Honor’s pre-wedding robe was designer-made by her sister, Cirra-Sue and the bridal dress was from Demetrios. Before the first dance, she changed into her third dress, which was the Mika draped split maxi dress from Aje. Honor had a headband made of porcelain flowers with freshwater pearls, Lena Rom veil and earrings by Amélie George Bridal.
First dance song? We did a mashup of the Blue Danube waltz by Johann Strauss with Pony by Ginuwine, Anyone by Justin Bieber, Shallow by Lady Gaga, and I Like the Way You Move by OutKast. We practised in our living room.
Any unique or surprising details about your wedding? We did a four-day celebration as many of our guests came from Europe and America. On the Tuesday before the wedding, we did a Broadwater pontoon cruise on the Gold Coast, and on the Wednesday we threw a welcome event at the Burleigh Pavilion. The day after (Friday), we planned a beach barbecue at Tallebudgera. Our international guests loved it.
What was the standout moment of the day?
The confetti. We had guests shower us in confetti on our way out of the chapel, then had a surprise confetti cannon for the last song (Treat You Better, by Rufus du Sol). We chose a champagne tower instead of a cake. Honor also wrote everyone a note.
How did Covid impact your wedding?
Honor’s mum is in Uganda and Thomas’s family is in the US and Europe. After we got engaged, we had to wait a year for certainty on the borders.
