A Thai eatery in Queensland’s most glamorous food precinct has proved the ultimate crowd favourite, winning The Courier-Mail’s Top 20 Brisbane Restaurants Readers’ Choice poll.
A fortnight ago, Qweekend magazine named our choice of the Top 20 restaurants in the city. We then put a call out to the public to see if they agreed with us.
Same Same in Fortitude Valley took out No.1 in the week-long vote, jumping an impressive nine places to knock off the critic’s choice, fellow Fortitude Valley restaurant Agnes, which landed in second place.
Owned by Ty Simon, Ben Williamson and Frank Li, Same Same has become loved for its contemporary take on Thai classics, eclectic drinks list, warm and knowledgeable service and glam fit-out inside the luxe Calile Hotel precinct off trendy James St.
“It’s very humbling because I think whilst people get caught up in hats and awards, at the end of the day it’s people leaving happy that is the most important thing for us and if people voted us No.1 that’s probably the ultimate compliment,” owner Ty Simon said.
The owners are also behind the public voted No.2 restaurant Agnes and No.4 Bianca, giving them three venues in the top four of the Readers’ Choice poll.
No. 3 went to Brisbane French institution, Montrachet, which rocketed from eighth place, while No. 5 was South Bank Italian Otto, which rose from No.9.
