Is this Brisbane’s most popular cafe for mums and bubs?

With large coffees almost as big as a bucket and friendly staff to help with prams, this neighbourhood cafe has become a favourite with mothers.

Is it a creche we’ve walked into or a cafe?

On a Friday morning, Peach Cafe in Auchenflower, in Brisbane’s inner west, has seemingly become the ultimate hangout for mums and bubs – with all but two tables seating a tiny human.

Driving its appeal with mothers is perhaps the small but well-equipped park right next door, or maybe it’s the soothing, white and peach-hued, Scandi-inspired interiors of the quaint, tight timber cottage with footpath dining.

But more likely, I suspect, it’s the warm and welcoming staff, who readily help lift prams up the two front steps and arrange high chairs; plus the fact that a small coffee is the size of a large and a large is as big as a bucket for all those sleep-deprived new parents.

That coffee – made with the eatery’s own signature blend – is also as smooth as one of those baby’s bums when served on full-cream milk.

As for the menu at Peach, it, too, is seemingly targeted towards the ladies with plenty of gluten-free, vegan and healthy options available including a veg-loaded winter greens bowl, corn and carrot fritters and a cacao, almond and buckwheat porridge.

But for those looking to treat themselves, there’s the loaded eggs Benedict croissant with pulled pork, poached eggs and a chipotle hollandaise, a haloumi hash brown burger or vegan-friendly “In the Orchard” hot cake ($17).

Despite being made without eggs, the domed pancake arrives fluffy and moist with a crisp crust like a buttercake fresh out of the oven.

It’s topped with a dice of cinnamon-spiced apple, sweet and tart apple “chips”, an oat crumble and a ball of vanilla ice cream with a mini jar of dairy-free caramel sauce to pour over the top adding extra moisture and sweetness.

Or for those who can’t decide between something healthy or not, there’s the “Yum yum popcorn chicken poke bowl” ($19).

The nutritional elements come in the form of plain brown rice, edamame, grated raw carrot, pickled ginger and a poached egg, while crunchy coated (if somewhat dry) fried chicken and sriracha-spiked spicy kewpie mayonnaise mean you’ll want a little extra stretch in your activewear.

A cabinet where diners order at the counter offers easy on-the-go options like bacon and egg burgers, gluten-free banana bread, croissants and some interesting-looking open pies.

Surprisingly, however, given the cafe’s popularity with parents, there are just two children’s options on the menu, alongside four kids’ milkshakes.

Not that it seems to bother the guests on my two visits, with queues out the door for tables.

Peach Cafe has clearly found its niche and for Auchenflower locals it’s a winning recipe.
