It’s become a Brisbane beer favourite, now this northside brewery has shared its big plans for the future.

Brisbane craft brewery Aether is expanding.

The Northgate brewhouse, owned by Dave and Annie Ward, is looking to extend their taproom, as well as add three 6000 litre tanks enabling them to move from producing around 200,000 litres of beer a year, to up to a 1,000,000 litres.

“For us to continue to grow we need to make more beer and to make more beer we need more tank space,” says Dave.

While applications still have to be cleared by council, the plan is to take out the downstairs offices so they can have extra space in their taproom for guests, which has been lost with COVID-19 restrictions on patron numbers.

Once up and running, the new tanks and centrifuge will also allow them to make better, more consistent beer, as well as provide additional seasonal brews.

“We’ll be able to do two seasonals a quarter – one every month and a half – and we’ve got a new little pilot brewery where we can make 100 litre batches, which provides a chance for the brewers to produce fun and exciting stuff for the tap room only.”

With council approval, the plan is for the expansion to be operational by the end of the year.
