A Brisbane sex worker has warned of some of the dangers of the adult industry, and that “lots of money” isn’t a given.
It comes amid a wave of adult content creators and OnlyFans stars flaunting their lavish lifestyles on TikTok.
Hannah Williams, 30, has been a sex worker for nearly a decade, describing herself as a Brisbane-based companion on TikTok.
After completing a degree in education, Ms Williams realised she would not be able to afford to keep her rental while juggling substitute teaching roles and a retail job.
She has been praised by other sex workers for outlining reasons why aspiring OnlyFans creators should be more cautious before jumping into the adult industry.
“There are a lot of methods we can use in the industry to prevent ourselves being put into a dangerous situation but at the end of the day it’s never 100 per cent,” she said.
“It doesn’t matter if they have security, if they have cameras, it doesn’t matter if they’ve passed your screening.
“All it takes is for that person to pin your wrists down and hurt you.
“It’s very quick.
“Unless you’ve got somebody in the room watching you, something could happen.”
Ms Williams said trauma was unavoidable in some situations.
“Another thing people don’t really talk about too much is how much trauma you can walk away with from the industry,” she said.
“If someone is engaging in spicy work and not being trafficked, even if you’ve consented to certain situations, sometimes certain situations don’t play out the way we wanted them to.
“Sometimes if we’re desperate and we need to do certain things and see certain people because we really need the money, those things can really leave us traumatised.
“I have had clients that have been amazing but it’s all been a ploy to eventually buy my love.
“It’s led into stalking, harassment, doxing, luckily for me I’ve never been physically violently harmed by a client however I know lots of spicy workers that have been.”
She added that making “lots of money” isn’t guaranteed.
“Lots of money comes from lots and lots of marketing, working in the industry for a while, building a reputation, figuring out who you are as a spicy worker and getting some regulars,” she said.
“Don’t forget about the discrimination that we face … it can change your entire life.”
