“We are over the worst of woke,” the opinionated broadcaster told The Weekend Australianon Friday while promoting his new book, Woke is Dead.
Some examples that wokeism was on the wane, he argued, included a Supreme Court ruling in the United Kingdom that women are biological women, and US President Donald Trump’s move to ban men from competing in women’s sports.
Morgan viewed Australia as an exception, however, and he didn’t mince words when it came to Aussies whom he believed were still engaged in “virtue signalling”.
“My message to all these Australian bodies that are still doubling down on this bulls**t is ‘stop,’” he said.
“You know, women didn’t fight a war for 100 years to win rights to equality, to have that vaporised at the altar of virtue signalling. It’s ridiculous.”
In Australia, biological men are still allowed to compete in some women’s sports. The Flying Bats football team in the North West Sydney women’s competition fields biological men and has dominated the tournament.
“There’s nothing equal about what’s happening,” Morgan claimed.
“It is creating a new inequality. Where if this was drug doping, everyone would say, this is outrageous, stop it.”
He said allowing trans women to compete at any level in sport meant that girls and women were denied positions in some teams and faced an increased risk of injury.
Australia allows trans women to compete at elite levels if they suppress their testosterone, but recent scientific advice to the International Olympic Committee shows biological men retain strength and endurance benefits even after suppressing the hormone.
“The advantage that biological men have, actual men, have against biological women, females, is obviously the reason we separate sexes in sport,” Morgan said.
He did not believe that wokeism was “dead,” as the title of his book implied, but said the public was becoming increasingly intolerant of woke ideology.
“Those who do not identify with this nonsense are beginning to be a lot louder and moving a lot quicker in opposing outbreaks of wokeism when you see it.
“I think that the wokies themselves don’t want to admit it. But every time there’s an outbreak of some woke idiocy now, I’m seeing more and more of an immediate backlash and a U-turn. And so I do believe we’re over the worst of this.”
He pointed to revelations this week that the World’s Strongest Woman was a biological male, but had hidden it from the organisers.
In 48 hours of chaos, Jammie Booker was crowned champ at the Official Strongman Games World Championship in the United States – only for the trophy to be taken away.
The move came after the runner-up, UK lifter Andrea Thompson, was filmed storming off the podium in protest of Booker’s victory.
“Two years ago, no one would be allowed to criticise it,” Morgan said of Booker’s dethroning.
“You would lose your job in certain places if you criticised that.
“Whereas this time, immediately, the organisation who said they didn’t realise this person was a trans woman, i.e. a biological man, immediately disqualified and removed the titles.”
