A woman has described the heartbreaking moment she witnessed what looked to be a dog being thrown from the Bribie Island bridge on Monday evening.

Teagan Jade posted on Bribie Island Community group on Monday asking Bribie Island residents to watch for a small dog on the island.

“Can people please keep an eye out for a small dog as I and my son witnessed as we were driving across the bridge a puppy being thrown off Bribie bridge at the entrance of the Bribie side,” she said.

“By the time I turned around and went looking for both her and the dog neither could be found.”

Community members looked for what was described as “ages” to find the dog to no avail.

The dog was described as fluffy, white, and the size of a poodle.

Earlier this month Animal Welfare League Queensland spokesman, Craig Montgomery, encouraged those looking to rehome animals to reach out to shelters for assistance.

“If you need support with your animal, please consider contacting your local shelter before rehoming them as they can potentially help point you to support services in your area,” he said.

Tough new animal rights laws were passed by Queensland Parliament in early December, with a potential three-year prison sentence for those found to have abused animals in their care.

Queensland Police Service and RSPCA Queensland have been contacted for comment.
