Meet the RSPCA’s 12 strays of Christmas looking for a new home

From a rare albino python and blue-tongued lizard to cats, dogs, guinea pigs, turtles and even magpie geese, these are the 12 cutest pets looking for a new home in Brisbane.

Christmas comes early for rescue dogs

An albino carpet python, a blue-tongue lizard, and a magpie goose are among the quirky mix of pets looking for a loving home this Christmas.

With the number of animals in RSPCA care has risen 18 per cent compared to this time last year, Queenslanders are being encouraged to welcome a furry, feathered or scaled friend into their family.

RSPCA Queensland spokeswoman Emma Lagoon said there was currently about 500 animals in need of adoption.

“We are looking for more adopters to come forward if people are ready to settle in a

family member at home,” Ms Lagoon said.

She said the festive season is typically one of their busiest times of year.

“Giving these pets a second chance at adoption is a wonderful thing to do.

“You not only changing their lives, but you’re also changing your own as well,” Ms

Lagoon said.

Ms Lagoon said a lot of the pets are microchipped, vaccinated, worm and flea

treated and desexed, removing the initial starting costs of getting a pet.

“It sort of sets you off on the right foot to continue their journey and make sure that

you can care for them for many years to come,” Ms Lagoon said.

When it comes to the adoption process Ms Lagoon said you can look online, as well

as in the shelter nearest to you.

“If you are looking to adopt, the best place to start is on the RSPCA website, where

you can apply,” Ms Lagoon said.

Ms Lagoon said it is important to adopt the pet that best suits your lifestyle and that

they are hoping to get these animals a home soon.

“Sometimes when animals spend a lot of time in shelter care or foster homes it’s not

quite the same as having a permanent home,” Ms Lagoon said.

“Hopefully, we can help a few more find their homes this festive season,” Ms Lagoon

said.
