‘Worst I’ve seen’: Couple’s unusual gender reveal divides online

“Is it safe? Really, the real question is… was all of that necessary?”

Couple's wild ice bath gender reveal

It seems no matter how hard we try, there will never be an end to outlandish gender reveals.

Determined to outdo each other and come out with the most creative reveal, which can sometimes end with disappointment or a hissy fit

For avid fitness enthusiast and self-described “Ice Queen”  Kya, the gender reveal for her third child, which is due in April 2024, was way cooler than the others - literally.

Couple learn baby’s gender with an ice bath

Mum-of-two Kya and her husband, Micah, stood in the backyard of their Oklahoma home, which was blanketed in crisp, white snow.

In the clip, she sported a hot pink mini dress and he was in a blue T-shirt and shorts, obviously immune to the subzero temperatures around them.

In front of them was a large ice bath with a hard layer of ice growing on top.

Micah grabbed a large dumbbell and started smashing up the ice, moving the frozen fragments out of the bath as Kya helped out.

“We should do more ice baths like this,” he said.

“Ready?” Kya keenly asked her husband as he hyped himself up for the plunge.

Stepping into the ice bath, they both showed clear signs of distress, but they pushed through and sat down, covering their bodies in the cold water.

After a second of adjusting their breathing and growing used to the freezing conditions, they were ready to learn the sex of their baby.

“Go ahead, Dad!” someone told Micha, prompting him to reach behind and flick a switch near the bath.

Suddenly, the water filled with a pool of pink. “We’re having a girl!” they screamed in delight before wrapping each other in a tender embrace.

“It’s hypothermia, congratulations!”

The video quickly went viral, clocking up 21 million views in the three days since it was posted, but not everyone was as chuffed by the creative gender reveal.

“The worst gender reveal I’ve ever seen,” an unimpressed person wrote. “Gender reveals are becoming dumber by the day,” said another.

“It’s hypothermia, congratulations,” a third added. “This is so weirdly random.”

Some questioned the safety of the stunt for the unborn child. “Is it safe? Really, the real question is… was all of that necessary?” someone laughed.

“Is that even safe when you are pregnant? Congrats on your baby girl, but genuinely concerned,” said another.

While it’s safe for a pregnant person to take part in a cold plunge, extreme hot or cold temperatures may increase the risk of health problems and premature births.

But others rushed to Kya and Micha’s defence, arguing her long history of ice baths made it the perfect gender reveal idea.

“If you noticed her page, you would know ice baths are her hobby,” a woman defended. “It makes sense why she picked a gender reveal like this.”

“I think your gender reveal is awesome for you guys, being able to incorporate your habits and personality to it!” said another.
