Man accused of deliberately crashing car into estranged wife in fatal crash

A firefighter and father-of-three has been charged with the murder of his estranged wife after he allegedly deliberately crashed into her car in NSW’s Central West.
Troy Armstrong, 35, was charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder after a horrific crash in Molong on June 9 that claimed the life of his estranged wife Kristy, 36.
Two other children in Kristy’s car were taken to hospital, and Mr Armstrong was also seriously injured in the crash.

The Daily Telegraph reports Mr Armstrong was freed from the mangled wreckage of his vehicle in the aftermath and taken to hospital in a critical condition.
He was in Royal North Shore Hospital when he was charged, and did not appear for his first court date at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.

Alleged victim applied for AVO against accused
NCA NewsWire reports Kristy died at the scene of the crash about 300km west of Sydney, and her two passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Police will allege Mr Armstrong had an argument with Kristy at a local school before the incident.
They will allege Mr Armstrong deliberately hit Kristy’s car, causing her death.
9News reports Kristy applied for an AVO against her estranged husband in November last year, but wasn’t granted an interim order until May.

Community remembers mother-of-three
The Molong community paid tribute to Kristy in the days after the fatal crash.
The Orange District Softball Association expressed condolences to her family and the local softball community.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we let our softball community know one of our own, Kristy, passed away yesterday,” the club wrote online.
“We send our deepest sympathies and lots of love to her family at this very difficult time.”
The Bletchington Softball Club also wrote: “We are incredibly saddened to learn of the tragic passing of a beloved teammate and friend, Kristy.
“Bletchington Softball Club would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to all those who knew and loved Kristy.”

"The community is grieving"
Cabonne Council mayor Kevin Beatty told the ABC the community of Molong had been left in shock following the tragedy.
“The community is grieving,” Mr Beatty said.
“This young family was well and truly entrenched in town, and quite involved.
“You walk down the street and everybody knows each other … just a very warm community which is now completely shocked.”
