A 17-year-old boy has faced court charged with murder after 34-year-old Adam Bockhodt was stabbed to death in a Melbourne apartment building

What happens when you are charged with a crime?

A young father who was stabbed to death outside his girlfriend’s Melbourne apartment has been remembered as a “lovely young fella”.

Adam Bockhodt, 34, died on Saturday when he was allegedly stabbed by a 17-year-old boy in a block of housing commission apartments in South Yarra, the Herald Sun reports.

The boy has been charged with murder, and appeared before a children’s court on Sunday night where he was remanded in custody.

"He was an amazing person"

Lisette told the Herald Sun her boyfriend was left “helplessly bleeding out” on the floor.

“He died on the kitchen floor,” she said.

“There was just too much blood. He knew he was dying, so I got off my wheelchair and got on the ground because I didn’t want him to die alone.”

Lisette said she’d known Adam for “half her life” and he had been her carer for many years.

“He was an amazing person, he was so loyal,” she told the Herald Sun.

“He died a soldier.”

Apartment building had drug issues before stabbing death

One of Lisette’s neighbours told the Herald Sun the building had unfortunately had a drug problem, which prompted Prahran MP Sam Hibbins to write a letter in February to the housing minister.

“Residents fear it is only a matter of time until someone is seriously hurt,” the letter read.

“It is apparently a common occurrence for people to congregate and drink, use drugs, fight and shout during the night, often well past midnight.

“Residents have expressed that this ongoing behaviour is extremely intimidating and that they are scared to leave their apartments.”

Another resident spoke to the Herald Sun about the drug problems in the building.

“There’s two levels here and they’re full of drug dealers,” he said.

“It’s just ridiculous what’s been happening here lately, it used to be brilliant but lately there’s nothing but druggies here.

“I’ve reported so many issues here so many times to the police, but you can’t blame them because they can’t keep up.”

"He was always friendly, always available to say hi"

Neighbour Jeorge Gamba told the Herald Sun he had a strong relationship with Adam.

“Adam was a good person,” he said.

“Many times I had conversations with this lovely young fella.

“He was always friendly, always available to say hi.

“No one ever had any complaints about him.”

A woman in a neighbouring block told the Herald Sun Adam’s death was a “shock”.

“It’s just very sad because he’s so young,” she said.

“It’s a shock to think he’s gone forever.”
