Having my first baby in my 30s was the best descision

"I had 15 years of being selfish, so I have no FOMO."

Having my babies in my 30s is the best

The term "geriatric pregnancy" can be pretty jarring, and many argue that we should retire this outdated label - because of the increasing societal acceptance of mothers having their first child in their 30s

This is something that's been celebrated in a candid viral video this week; where one mum has sparked a conversation about the joys and benefits of having her first child in her 30s.

"10 out of 10"

"Becoming a first-time mum at 33, 10 out of 10, hear me out," Kristie begins in her TikTok video.

"So, I know technically it's not recommended because you have a more difficult pregnancy, maybe a harder time getting pregnant. Maybe you don't bounce back as quickly, which what does that even mean? And maybe you're more tired, but the pros are [big]," she says.

Kristie explains that she doesn't feel like she's missing out on anything by being at home with her infant because it's all a little "been there, done that" for her.

"In my 20s, emotionally, mentally, financially, I was not ready to be a mum. I had 15 years of being selfish, so I had no FOMO," she explains.

"This has been such an amazing time. I haven't done a lot in the past three and a half months. I'm just kind of soaked in the time with my daughter. Not watching everybody's Instagram stories, traveling or going out to dinner or going out on weekends. And I'm not like, 'I wish I was doing that.' I'm like, 'I've already done that. I've already done that a lot'."

"I'm ready to live quietly"

She continued, "And I'm really grateful that I had that time, and now I'm ready to live quietly and just enjoy the little things."

The video resonated with viewers across social media, sparking a wave of support and solidarity from parents who could relate to Kristie's celebration of being a "30s mum."

Many shared their experiences of embracing motherhood in their 30s, echoing her sentiments about the joys and advantages of starting a family later in life. Others assured her that 33 is still super young.

"I cannot imagine having one in my 20’s"

“I just turned 30, and the thought of having children anytime soon is WILD to me,” one viewer wrote.

“34 with a two-month-old! PhD, JD done and more secure, and no fomo! We lived and ate well!” cheered another.

"First-time mum at 37, I definitely wouldn’t change a thing," a third agreed.

“100%. Had my first baby at 33 and I cannot imagine having one in my 20’s!! I’m glad I had my selfish time pre-baby,” another mum wrote.

This woman offered a different opinion: "Congrats and happy for you! Just remember, millions don’t have the choice. I’m 36 and don’t have the luxury of choosing the ideal age to become a mum. I decided four years ago that we were ready."

Finally, one this mum said: "Pregnant with my first at 33. I’m glad I waited! I got to finish college, travel & get all the party and selfishness out of my system. Plus, we’re still young!"
