Students cowered under desks as 12yo walked schoolyard with a knife
The 12yo boy was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with a “non-life-threatening cut to his abdomen,” Queensland Police reported. He has since been released from the hospital.
At the time of the incident, students were reportedly cowering under their desks and hiding from the girl.
“I just got really scared, so I hid under a desk,” a student told 7News.
The young girl was seen walking around the schoolyard with a steak knife. “She was banging on the door, she banged on our door with a knife [and said] ‘I’m going to kill you all’,” another child described.
The school was plunged into a one-hour lockdown, leaving students terrified as teachers tried to step in.
Per the school’s phone policy, mobiles are taken and placed in pouches during the day, meaning many parents were unaware of the incident hours after it occurred.
Instead, students began sending frantic emails while they hid from the attacker.
“The incident will be dealt with by the school in line with our student code of conduct as appropriate,” the school principal said in a statement. “As always … I am also available to meet with any parent who has a concern.”
