Mum's clever hack solves annoying camping problem

Need to turn your soggy esky into a fridge? Try this.

Mum divides the internet over controversial meal prep hack

Having the right camping setup can make or break your holiday.

Forget your sleeping mat, and you might have an uncomfortable couple of days. Don't have the right gear for wet weather? Well, you're going to be sitting around in a damp campsite.

Whether you're a seasoned camper or planning your first adventure, a small tip can make a big difference.

That's why one woman on Facebook is sharing a hack that will fix a common and frustrating problem faced by many campers — keeping food in your esky fresh, dry and safe from becoming a soggy mess.

"It wasn't all just a horrible soggy mess"

When you pack ice directly with food, the ice inevitably melts over time, especially during summer and on longer trips.

We've probably all experienced that moment of opening up your esky after a couple of days on the road, only to find water pooling at the bottom and half your food mushy and inedible.

But this hack offers a simple solution — use a separate container inside the esky to create a barrier between the ice and food.

Not only will your food stay nice and dry, but it also has the added benefit of keeping your esky organised so you can find things easily.

"To the person who posted about using a container inside your esky to separate the food and the ice - Thank you!" the woman began her post in the NZ Fun Adventures Camping group.  I did a three-week road trip this Christmas and this made things so simple.

"I had a couple of hiking excursions while on the trip and came back to the car after three days and it wasn't all just a horrible soggy mess in there. Just awesome! Bit sad that I didn't think of it myself, but so happy at how well it worked."

"Why didn't I think of this?"

Her post was a hit in the group, racking up over 7.5k likes and over 600 comments.

"So obvious... why didn't I think of this? Lol," someone wrote, and another said, "Such a good idea."

"This is game-changing," declared someone else.

"Looks like it would work perfectly for meat," a different commenter pointed out.

The chatter didn't stop there. Other members chimed in with their own esky hacks.

One user suggested, "I put the ice in a dry bag. Works brilliantly and everything stays dry," while another offered, "Another idea is to leave the ice in the plastic bag it comes in."

Smart!
