Mum shares hack to easily kid-proof your couch

 It's like a DIY slipcover that's both chic and practical.

You know what doesn't go together? Having nice things + kids. 

They just don't, and the sooner you realise this, the better. 

Wave goodbye to the idea of a pristine beige couch — with the hustle and bustle of little ones, the inevitable spills and wear make it an impractical choice.

Well, at least that was true before we stumbled across this video doing the rounds on TikTok. 

Mum-of-two, Kris Buckhout, has shared a simple hack for kid-proofing your couch, all without sacrificing style. 

And you just need a set of bed sheets!

The bed sheet hack that makes your couch kid-friendly

"Never in my life did I think I would be doing a tutorial about how to put a sheet over your sofa, but here we are," Kris begins. 

And it really is as simple as it sounds.

"It's literally just a sh*t-ton of tucking," she explains, draping the sheets over the couch and tucking them in.

She works her way around the couch, making sure to pull the sheets tightly as she goes, tucking the corners into every crevice.

"I would say I have a medium-sized sofa and I was able to use an entire sheet set for this, and I have a king-size fitted sheet and a flat sheet," she says. 

"Look at how good it looks, it's just a ton of tucking," she concludes.

And yes, this hack really seems like the best of both worlds. It's like a DIY slipcover that's both chic and practical.

"I'm going to do this"

The video has blown the minds of its viewers, of which there are over eight million, with one person saying, "Ok, I'm going to do this!" and another, "I love this idea."

"Why didn't I think of this?" another user asked. 

But some people had some concerns about the trick, questioning whether or not you have to retuck it every time someone sits on the couch. 

"Wouldn't they immediately untuck when you sit on it?" someone asked.

"Yeah, probably - but it's worth it to keep it clean!" another user replied.

Meanwhile, lots of commenters also pointed out that this 'hack' was something their parents did growing up.

"Did this growing up and was called poor," someone shared. 

"Our generation's plastic couch," a different comment read.

And another woman said, "My mum did this growing up when we were sick so we didn’t get our germs on the couch lol. Just take off, wash, and repeat."
