Meet 11 of SA’s most popular psychics, mediums and clairvoyants

Most have known they’ve have a “gift” since birth but only embraced it after a near-death experience. Meet the South Aussies using their sixth sense to help others.

Vicki Button: What does it mean to see spirits and signs?

A young South Australian woman was “working her way up the corporate ladder” when she decided to ditch her day job and become a psychic medium.

It was the death of her grandmother that motivated Sonia Burman to embrace her calling in her early 30s.

Ms Burman, now 42, said she saw a psychic medium to help her heal.

“That was the day I realised that seeing Spirit from a young age wasn’t a curse but could be a tool to help people,” she said.

“The grief my family felt was intensified by the fact that she died in hospital, alone, half an hour after my uncle had left her.

“Not only did I find out that my granny was OK, she had waited for my uncle to leave the hospital that day.

“My granny didn’t want any family to have the memory of her last moments.”

After the reading the Cheltenham woman said she passed on the message to her extended family and the effect was immediate.

“The comfort of knowing my granny was OK and she got to pass on her own terms was an incredible gift to my family,” she said.

“It helped with the healing process exponentially.”

Ms Burman, who charges $250 for an hour, has harnessed her “psychic senses” and telepathic abilities to relay information between people and their deceased loved ones.

She uses images, sounds, feelings, smells and tastes when doing a reading and to pass on messages she receives from “spirit”.

“Spirit provides the information to me through images, sounds, often song lyrics, movements and feelings and I decipher the pieces of information,” she said,

“It is a beautiful way to connect with family, share stories and remember a loved one.

“When someone passes away, their spiritual body changes frequency and moves to a different vibration – mediums raise their vibration and our loved ones lower theirs and we meet in the middle.

“The best way I can explain it is that energy is never lost.”

Like Ms Burman, many SA psychics, mediums and clairvoyants say they’ve known they have a “gift” since birth but only embraced it later in life and turned their unique ability into a vocation.

Meet 10 more of the state’s most popular psychics.

Vicki Button knew from a young age she had a gift after seeing a woman laying on a bed in her great-grandfather’s house.

The intuitive clairvoyant later worked out the woman was her great-grandmother, who had died 20 years before was born.

Then during a near-death experience in 2020 Ms Button said she was able to leave her body and “see” the other side.

The Victor Harbor woman, who also lived in Mount Gambier for three decades said opening her third eye and learning how to develop her visions had helped her make accurate predictions and readings.

“All my readings are done via email so I just need a photo of someone to do the reading,” Ms Button said.

“I recently helped a guy in Adelaide find his missing cat late last year.

“There was a newspaper story about him and his beloved cat, I gave him all the visuals of where I saw the cat and he found it in exactly that place.”

Ms Button has an active social media presence, a YouTube channel and has done multiple podcast interviews.

“I have no problem sharing who I am with the public,” she said.

“There are many out there who aren’t particularly psychic and who claim to be and they give us a bad name.”

Amie Vello – Clairvoyant Medium

Location: Blair Athol

Price: An hour session starts at $135/hr or $50 for 20 minutes at a fair

“My mum knew, and I found out when I went myself to have a reading,” Ms Vello said.

“After my son Jesse passed away I went for a reading and she told me I would be doing readings and I would be good at it.

“My reaction was, ‘nah you’re crazy’, but she was like, ‘no.’”

Ms Vello, who lives with cerebral palsy and has used a wheelchair for most of her life, named her website jesseisanangel.com.au in tribute to her lost child.

“I may be in a wheelchair, but there is nothing I can’t do,” she said.

“I do readings from home, I do fairs around Adelaide. I’m on stage talking about my life, how and why I became a medium.”

Ms Vello practises psychometry, which involves reading and sensing stories based on an object’s history and previous owner through touch.

The Blair Athol woman holds items against her forehead and sometimes uses a crystal ball, known as an orbuculum, and said it was one of the oldest tools for clairvoyance.

“I can sense through different methods – all existing things are made of energy so psychometry allows energetic impressions left in the item come to life again,” she said.

“This method can give you insights like who might’ve owned the item and what experiences they might’ve had during their time with it including emotions and trauma.”
