An Aussie finance influencer has revealed the meaning behind Aldi price tags, leaving some shoppers “surprised”.
If you have noticed the German retailer uses yellow price tags, one with black writing and the other in red – there’s a reason.
Sydney influencer Queenie Tan, 25, who is known for sharing little-known money saving tips on TikTok, explained there’s a way to tell which Aldi products are available for a limited time only.
“A yellow tag with black writing means it’s a core Aldi product,” she said in her latest clip.
“But a yellow tag with red writing means it’s a limited time product.”
News.com.au can confirm Aldi stores nationwide use the two different tags to help customers differentiate what’s a permanent item, and what’s not.
The tag with red writing also had ‘limited time only’ on it, but when you’re in a rush, it’s hard to miss.
Some followers had no idea about the two tags, with one user commenting: “Interesting thanks for letting me know”.
Another Aldi shopper pointed out tags with the letter “D” handwritten on them means it’s been discontinued.
“Ooo I haven’t seen this before but now I’ll keep a lookout thanks,” Queenie responded.
But not all stores do this; some have red stickers that indicate the product won’t be making a comeback.
News.com.au can also confirm staff often mark the price tag of limited-edition products that won’t be replenished, so they can find them easily on shelves.
Meanwhile, last month the influencer claimed in a TikTok that Wednesdays are when the German supermarket “have new deals and it’s when they restock”.
Aldi Australia confirmed Wednesday was the day Super Savers deals were released but urged shoppers not to “rush in” as the offers were available all week.
“Every day is a savings day when you shop at Aldi, literally,” an Aldi spokesman said. “Wednesday is one of seven exciting days in our stores as our Special Buys are released on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
“Wednesday is also the day that our newest Super Saver deals are released – but no need to rush in on this day alone as Super Savers are available for a full week.”
TikTok users commented that the day was also the best time to shop at Woolies.
“ … We change promotions every Tuesday night. So the best day to shop at Woolies is Wednesday and also Tuesday night we get heaps of load,” the user wrote.
“Woolies do the same. all new promotions pop up on Wednesday,” said another.
