Lucky Cat Cafe

Are you a cat person?

Are you in desperate need of feline cuddles?

We’ve got the solution for you!

Lucky Cat Cafe may just be your new favourite date spot. Nestled in Annerley on Ipswich Road, the cafe helps kittens find their ‘fur-ever’ homes and their ‘fur-ever’ humans through an intimate dining experience.

Owner Daniel McGowan said they partner with Kitten Kapers Rescue to ensure all cats find their ‘paw-fect’ humans.

“Our adoption process involves two ways of adoption. First, interested adopters can see one of the cats on the Kitten Kapers Rescue site and contact Kerry, who then gets them in touch with us to arrange a meet-and-greet,” he said.

“Alternatively, customers who visit the cafe may fall in love with one of the cats there and contact Kerry to discuss the adoption process.

“It is important for us to find the perfect pairing of cat and family to ensure the cats find their forever homes.

“To achieve this, the rescue conducts screening interviews with potential adopters while we discuss the best procedure for integrating the cat into their new home.

“We also offer continued contact with all adoptees to provide advice or help whenever possible, in close collaboration with Kitten Kapers Rescue.”

Mr McGowan said kittens are usually adopted out in a few weeks, however adult cats sometimes stay a little longer, with most cats on average finding their human within three months.

“The quickest adoption we have had was a 14-week-old kitten who arrived at the cafe with no name and a rough background,” he said.

“She was initially shy, but after one of our customers met her, he fell in love and adopted her instantly, just a day after she arrived at the cafe.”

One particular ‘happy tail’ is the story of how Flora found her person.

“Flora was a mother cat who came to us and was very wary of being picked up, being around other cats, and generally giving death stares to anyone nearby.

“She had recently given birth to kittens before coming to us and had just been separated from them as they had grown up a bit.

“It took some time, but with much-needed attention from us and some of our customers, Flora eventually began to appreciate pats and cuddles.

“She started to come around and become more comfortable with her surroundings. She’s now been adopted and living her best life.”

Despite being apprehensive around humans, the tale of how Harry found his home is most definitely ‘paw-some’.

“Harry was one of our older cats, who was part of the group of cats that grew up at the cafe from kittens with the previous owner,” Mr McGowan said.

“He was named after the Harry Potter family along with his littermates. Despite being a nervous wreck and hating long drives, Harry was adopted and travelled a long distance down to NSW.

“Surprisingly, once he arrived, he opened up and took over the whole house! He even became best fur friends with the house dog, which was amazing since he was always very anxious around new things he had never seen before.”

The cafe has now helped 37 cats find their ‘fur-ever’ homes.

“The majority of them being people who came into the cafe for a cat session and left with the desire to take one home,” he said.

“We’ve just brought in our 47th foster and our goal is to increase this number as much as we can because there are just so many cats and kittens in rescues that need a forever home.”

You can visit Lucky Cat Cafe from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM Wednesday to Sunday, however bookings are recommended to avoid disappointment.
