Woman reveals how to score a cheap Macca’s sundae

A Sydney woman has revealed how you can order a popular McDonald’s treat that would normally cost $3, for just a fraction of the price.

Woman's $1 Macca's hack

A Sydney woman known for her money-saving hacks has revealed how you can nab a chocolate Sundae from Macca’s for just a gold coin.

Queenie Tan, 25, who boasts a TikTok following of more than 104,000, shared a clip titled “McDonald’s secret” explaining how instead of paying $3 for the popular treat, she paid just $1.

Queenie said she had found a food delivery service charging $4.30 for a regular sized chocolate sundae.

But instead of ordering it in its usual cup, she asked for the “soft serve in a lid with chocolate sauce”.

“I order this all the time,” Queenie said in the comments section of her clip, which has been viewed more than 113,000 times.

Macca’s restaurants in Australia will normally charge 75 cents for the soft serve in a lid and an extra 15 cents for the chocolate fudge, totalling $1.25.

But either way it’s still a fraction of the price with TikTok users eager to give the mini version a go.

“Defo trying this next time,” one person commented.

Others were familiar with the hack claiming to have been doing it for years.

“I get this when I’m working. It’s so much easier and quicker to eat before going back to work,” one woman wrote.

A former Macca’s employee said ordering the soft serve in the lid, gives you the same amount as the cup.

“Two and a half swirls. At least when I worked there,” they said, while another claimed to “overfill the soft serve lid anyway”.

Others commented with various other mini sundae options such as adding M & M’s chocolates, crushed Oreo biscuits or hot fudge, for $1.90.

In June this year, another TikTok user’s sundae hack went viral.

Aussie foodie, Ryan Paturzo, clocked more than 140,000 views on his video showing viewers how to make a chilli sundae, with the “unusual” combo first made famous in China.

“First order a plain Sundae, then you’re going to top it with chilli oil,” he said while lathering his vanilla ice cream in a spicy oil.

“The blend creates a salty and sweet creamy flavour with crunchy texture.”

The Buzzfeed producer said to trust him when he says “your tastebuds will be taken on a wild adventure”.

McDonald’s China actually sold it as part of their menu earlier this year.

The sundae is said to be inspired by Biangbiang noodles of the Shaanxi province. They tend to be covered in spicy chilli oil and other condiments.
