A new trend involving the popular green vegetable has been sweeping social media – but one Gold Coast woman warns it can go horribly wrong.

A Gold Coast fitness influencer has issued a warning over a viral cucumber salad after she followed the “simple” recipe and ended up in hospital.

Bec Hardgrave spoke out against the popular “snack”, created by TikTok user Logan Moffit, after hordes attempted to recreate it at home.

Logan, who posts under the handle @logagm, amassed millions of views detailing how he eats an “entire cucumber”.

But his “delicious” method involves using a mandolin to slice the water-based vegetable into thin pieces – something Bec has since found out the hard way can easily cause injuries if not used correctly.

“It was my first time using a mandolin, I’d just bought it from Kmart and didn’t realise it came with a guard until after the fact,” the influencer with more than 300,000 followers across Instagram and TikTok told news.com.au.

“I didn’t think to look cause I hadn’t seen other people using a guard when doing their cucumber trend videos.

“But it took a good chuck of my flesh off, which sounds disgusting, because it was.

“The cut went all the way down to the fat layer of my skin and I had to go to the emergency department.”

The $12 Kmart kitchen device – along with other brands who sell mandolins – comes with “finger guard” to prevent accidents.

The product also contains a warning which reads: “Keep out of reach of children, sharp blades, use carefully when operating and washing item to avoid injury.”

Ms Hardgrave, who is known for sharing a string of different food-related content, was recording herself when the accident occurred and later decided to post her “nightmare” video in a bid to warn others.

“All of the videos I had seen go viral were of people using the mandolin just like I had, without the safety guard,” she said.

“A lot of didn’t seem to be saying anything about how dangerous they were or how easy to are to cut yourself on.

“My injury is too wide to be stitched up, so I just have to keep redressing every few days whilst it heals, which will take a while and keep an eye out for infection

“The nurse who just redressed my hand told me no nurses own a mandolin because so many people come in with mandolin related injuries.”

In her video, Ms Hardgrave could be seen talking to the camera while she sliced the cucumber into an empty protein shaker.

As she moved the green vegetable backwards and forwards over the blade, viewers watched on as Ms Hardgrave’s hand inched closer and closer towards it.

Thankfully, she saved viewers from witnessing the accident occur, by cutting the clip to show her in hospital with her hand covered in bandages.

“So here’s a warning for everyone, I had just bought that mandolin, and didn’t open up the box fully,” she states in the clip once home from A&E.

“But it comes with a guard so that doesn’t happen. Just don’t use a mandolin.”

The video, titled “trend gone wrong”, has been viewed 122,000 times and amassed hundreds of comments.

“I’m always so scared to use a mandolin,” one shared.

“The single most terrifying kitchen tool,” another declared.

As one stated: “This exact thing happened to me 2 days ago.”

Logan’s recipe has sparked thousands of videos from social media users all recreating the “tasty snack” – with Ms Hardgrave noting “he doesn’t use the guard” in his video.

For those who would like to try the recipe but sans a hospital visit, Logan instructs using a whole cucumber (sliced safely) and mixing in a number of condiments often found in pantries.

He adds soy sauce, fish sauce, sugar, green onions, sesame oil, toasted sesame seeds and “MSG, obviously.” Then he shakes it up, and slurps it up.

“It’s so easy and delicious,” he said.
