RICE BOI
French fries are given a Japanese twist at this bustling pan-Asian eatery, with the humble spud logs turned into a meal you’ll lose your mind over. The potato battens are cooked until crisp, dusted with salty dashi spice and desirably drowned in a Japanese curry sauce before a crowning of spring onions and pickled ginger. Once you’ve had them, you’ll never be able to eat plain fries again.

CALIFORNIA TACOS
Mexico meets America in the hunger-busting California Fries at this fast-casual Mexican eatery. The whopping serve features a nest of French fries buried beneath melted cheese, black beans, avo-peno crema, sour cream, baja aioli, guacamole and salsa fresca with your choice of beef, pork, chicken or sauteed cactus and zucchini. There’s also the option for a super-sized version “to share” — possibly among you and 20 of your friends as the single version is big enough for three people.

GETTA BURGER
This Queensland-born, American-style fast food business believes that bigger is better when it comes to their beloved burgers and the same rule applies for their “filthy fries”. The mammoth portion of potato sticks is on the “sides” menu, but is a meal on its own, exploding with smoked brisket, pulled pork, grilled onion, maple bacon, cheese, barbecue sauce, ranch dressing and mustard.

5 DOGS
Though a favourite with the 3am clubbing crowd, you don’t have to be drunk to enjoy the simple pleasures that the Canadian-inspired poutine fries that these grab-and-go eateries deliver. Their thick, fluffy-centred chips come loaded with poutine cheese before being smothered in old-school gravy, melting the fromage to a thing of oozy beauty.

CAROLINA KITCHEN
This authentic American eatery is loved for its Carolina-style barbecue, and a serve of chicken wings and ribs is not complete without a side of their New York Fries. The golden chippies are slathered in rich but mild chilli con carne, grated cheese and a big dollop of sour cream. If you really want to turn it up though, try the barbecue fries with melty pulled pork, sweet and sticky barbecue sauce and oozy cheese.
