Some producers have pulled out of a Sunshine Coast food festival amid concerns of foot and mouth disease.
Organisers of The Curated Plate announced on Monday that the Celebrating Maleny Dairy Producers event had been cancelled because of potential biosecurity risks.
“Our friends at Maleny Cheese, Maleny Dairies and Maleny Food Co. have made the difficult decision to cancel their event this Saturday, due to potential biosecurity risk of a Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak in Australia,” they said.
“This is a precautionary measure to protect the health and wellbeing of the cows and calves in the local area.”
Organisers hope to reschedule the event at a later date, but ticketholders have been contacted and refunds offered.
Close to 100 sellout events are set to go ahead as planned during the festival.
Events include Seasonal Tastings at the Falls Farm, Bush Tucker and Botanics at the Maleny Botanic Gardens, and a meet and greet with chef Matt Golinski at the Eumundi Markets.
