HAPPY BOY

East St, Fortitude Valley

It’s loud, echoey and distinctly hipster-cool, but at its heart is great food. Highlighting regional cuisine, the restaurant’s dishes are all authentic, flavour-packed and generously portioned.

SNACK MAN

East St, Fortitude Valley

A younger brother to neighbouring Happy Boy, this bar-style eatery makes quality wine the focus. But giving the vino a run is the stellar range of traditional snacks inspired by regions across China.

CHINA SEA

60 Park Rd, Milton

A Brisbane institution, this Park Rd eatery is famed for its Peking duck. Eat it as part of the signature two-course feast, and follow up with their acclaimed lobster with ginger and shallot or chilli mud crab.

FAT DUMPLING

368 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley

As it’s name would suggest, dumplings are the star attraction here. Available poached, pan-fried or steamed in varieties such as pork and Chinese cabbage, prawn and garlic chives, and fish, they are some of the best in town.

A Sunnybank institution now with a second outlet at Westfield Chermside, this popular restaurant draws a strong expat Chinese crowd for its authentic fare. Go for the yum cha and order the off-menu dishes.

FORTUNE WELL

342 McCullough St, Sunnybank

This Sichuan-style restaurant delivers authentic fiery cuisine in a simple setting. The dry hot pot and barbecue fish dish are a specialty.

YUM YUM PEKING DUCK

5/146 Scotts Rd, Darra

This tiny, no-frills eatery serves some of Brisbane’s best Peking duck. Order a day ahead to avoid missing out and be treated to a two- or three-course feast, including pancakes with the crispest of duck skin.

Arguably Queensland’s most glamorous Chinese restaurant in a stunningly restored heritage building, Donna Chang serves up traditional Chinese cuisine with an exciting native Australian twist. Fried calamari with pepperberry, say, or perhaps roast duck with Davidson plum. It’s inventive and clever cooking.

SUPER BOWL CHINESE RESTAURANT

185 Wickham St, Fortitude Valley

With its no frills fit-out, Super Bowl is all about the food, delivering quality dishes at terrific prices. Their budget banquets are a great option for groups or go for chef’s specials like salt and pepper white bait.

The winner of Best Chinese Restaurant in Queensland in the Restaurant and Catering Awards for five years running, Qi’lin is loved for its authentic, full-flavoured oriental dishes and excellent Peking duck.

Don’t expect five star decor, but it’s the noodle artistry that counts here. Always consistent and reliably quick, Cafe China offers a mix-and-match menu of 90 items, including signatures such as Peking duck salad and Sichuan chicken fried rice.
