AFTER a decade at Brisbane’s South Bank, Italian stalwart Popolo is set for a makeover.

The casual eatery in the River Quay arena will receive a new “beautiful and fun”facade, fresh furniture and a reconfiguration of the space to accommodate more diners, particularly larger groups and functions.

“It’s been such an incredible little business for us and we feel like we owe it to our regular customers to give them something new to get excited about,” said restaurateur Andrew Baturo from DAP & Co, which own the venue.

The refurb will mean a lighter and brighter, modern but traditional look inspired by the lush green space around the building, with an featured arbour, lots of greenery and lighting to emphasise it.

The menu will also receive a few tweaks, with the venue keeping its signature pizza and pasta but moving to more traditional regional-style Italian food with the share plates and mains.

“We definitely want to give it a little bit of an edge but revolve around really great quality produce and really good technique,” Mr Baturo said.

The makeover will start later this month, ready for a mid-September relaunch.
